Dory Cove Will Be Missed

This was our favorite Resturant in Lincoln City, Oregon. We hopw that they will rebuild so we can still call this our favorite place to go.

Here is a copy of what printed in the local newspaper.

By News Guard staff
A Wednesday night blaze gutted the landmark Dory Cove Restaurant by Roads End State Recreation Site just north of Lincoln City. The 9-1-1 call came in at 9:47 p.m. from Veta Shelby of Roads End.
Fire crews arrived on the scene about 9:54 p.m. Nov. 29 to find flames coming through the roof. They had the fire contained by 10:40 p.m. The restaurant had been closed since Nov. 27 for an annual winter break. No one was in hurt in the blaze. Although the fire is believed to have started quietly, neighbors report that an explosion rocked the area between 9:45 and 10 p.m. "I live a block away," said Lu Neal, one of the original owners of the 33-year-old restaurant. "I didn't hear a thing. A couple of neighbors said they heard the explosion but not the fire sirens." Neal says she didn't actually learn of the fire until early Thursday morning, when a friend called with the news from Vancouver, Wash. The friend had been called by another friend in Roads End.
As firefighters fought the blaze Wednesday night, Logan Road was closed in both directions. Firefighters had the fire out at 1:47 a.m. and left at 2:15 a.m., but the fire rekindled at 3:30 a.m. A truck and crew returned to the site and had the flare-up out within 10 minutes. At that point, the truck and crew were posted at the site for the rest of the night, and so when the fire erupted again — where the kitchen used to be — about 8 Thursday morning, they were quickly back on the ground to douse the smoldering debris. The last people in the restaurant were six members of a cleaning crew, who left work at 4 p.m. Wednesday.Closed for winter cleaning, the restaurant would normally have reopened Dec. 27. "It has always been a tradition to close between Thanksgiving and Christmas to give everybody a vacation and time to redo what needed to be done at the restaurant," explained Neal. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neal and her late husband, Bill Neal, opened the restaurant with Roy and Mary Johnson June 23, 1973. From the beginning, says Neal, Roy Johnson was the heart and operator of the business, tinkering with the menu of chowder and fresh fish, hosting a morning coffee klatch for locals and in the early years offering the place to Road Enders for holiday parties during the restaurant's winter hiatus. "Roy made the business," said Neal. "We were just investors. He is the guy who had the energy and the sweat and the tears, and it has really hit him hard." Five years ago, after her husband died, Neal says she eased pretty much out of the business, and the Johnsons' son, Dave Johnson, and nephew-in-law Ron Smith joined the ownership team. It was Dave Johnson who hiked in last night and stood vigil as the restaurant burned, according to Neal.He waited until this morning to break the news to his father, so his dad could get one more good night's sleep before having to deal with all that was to come.

A few of us from last Saturday's crop did some Ali challenges from A Designer's Eye book (with pattern paper). Here are mine, the first one of Thor is from page 159, the next one of Thor is page 135, the one of me at the beach is page 108, and mom and McKaid is page 121. This was fun and I was able to get pages done. Thanks Carrie for the help and so glad you got some great pages done as well. I need to do this more often, for some reason I am able to get thing done this way. I am still trying to find my style still not sure what it is but I like it. It is so strange to scrap mini album size then go to 12x12.

Oregon Coast...

was so beautiful. The weather was amazing for October, walked around in a t-shirt most of the time. Stopped in Depoe Bay on Friday and watched a whale in the bay was not able to get a photo though, but really enjoyed seeing one that close to shore. Went to my favorite pottery store in Lincoln City and spent to much of course but I at least started my Christmas shopping. Spent most of Saturday at the out let mall, found some great deals and bought some new outfits for winter. Had a great time with gram and gramp, was happy to have spent sometime with them before the weather gets bad and I would not have been able to travel to see them. Went to see Vicki and Mel's place in Lincoln City but they where not home:( sorry that we missed each other. Went an saw Jo and Dale Mallicoat at there new condo on the ocean, o'my gosh the view is to kill for. They have a great view of the beach all day long.

Relay For Life University

This is Jeff Noland he lives in Portland, Oregon. He is fighting cancer. He was a guest speaker on Saturday. His story is sad and made me cry but I was touched that he was able to get up there and tell us his story. To share his journey, a journey that is a fight each day. There is no cure for his cancer. Thank you Jeff for sharing your story with us.
Thank you to our staff partners who work so hard along side us to have a great event.

A thank you to the Cancer Survivors you are the reason why I volenteer to help find the cure.

Spent Friday and Saturday in Post Fall, ID at a American Cancer Society training for Relay For Life. I had a blast was able to meet new people and talk with friends that I have made the last few years attending this event. In Friday's breakout I attended Communication is the Key!! Learned how to make sure that all volunteer's and teams have all the information that they need to have a great success. Saturday's first breakout went to Online Communication & Technical Chairs, Hermiston may become a online event along with offline. This was all new information for me. As of right now Hermiston is not a online event, as of today we still do not know if we will be an online event. Then in my last breakout for Saturday was Hook,Line and Sinker(how to sell Relay)I also was able to work on my "Why I Relay".

I had so much fun in Post Falls. The hotel was so cool, I had a nice room on the ground floor with a door out onto a patio that over looked the Snake River. I had a king size bed all to myself with 6 pillows. I want to go back to there and spend a weekend with Corey.

Virgo

I don't read my horoscope a lot because 1/2 the time I don't think it applies to me. But for some reason this one got me thinking. That I am very lucky to have the life I have with Corey and Thor. Corey is my rock and keeps me centered, I love this man more then words can say. Even though Thor is just a dog she is so much apart of our family, that Corey and I don't know what we would do without her now. She can be my sounding board at times, she just looks at you with a look of everything will be okay you'll see. I am so grateful for a nice home, a good job, my friends, family and a hobby that lets me tell a story about me and my life. So why would I question anything about it? It's not boring to be normal or the same or to do the same thing over and over again and again. It's just how I am and how my life has led me down this path right now, but the path may have a fork in it up the road what will I do then. Only time will tell when I reach that fork, when ever that may be.

If your lifestyle is considerably different then others, resist feeling self-conscious about this today, dear Virgo. Try to remember that you chose the life you have for specific reasons. Even if you've come to a point that you are considering a change, there is no need to feel bad, ashamed, or embarrassed about where you're at now. Everyone has to make their own way, and if this conforms to the norm, that's fine. If if doesn't, that's fine too.

Stacy's Right Now 7 Favorite

This was a challenge from Ali Edwards blog.miniBOOK :

AEzine ChallengeAEzine Challenge for the week of September 24, 2006: Your challenge this week was/is to use wallet photos to create a miniBOOK about your five fabulous favorites right now. Pick everyday favorites - simple stuff like your cozy fleece jacket, your hand cream, your electric toothbrush, your favorite CD of the moment, and your drink of choice. Maybe step out of your own personal box by using non-photos or a mixture of photos + ephemera. (I am looking at a pastry bag from Starbucks sitting on the seat next to me thinking that would make a great visual for one of my favorites right now.)If you don't feel like making something about yourself this week then ask your partner or child to name five of their favorite things right now and document those instead.Go for "mini" overall. Small photos + small album = BIG goodness.

I could not just do 5 had to change it up a bit so I have 7. Here are a few pictures of mine!!!

The Miracle of Choice

This is today's post on Melody Ross's blog. We are the one with the choice to do what we want to in our lives. It is our choices that make us who we are. I know one area of my life I am trying to become a betters person and the choices I am making are not always the right one's. It is a battle each day and sometimes I feel I am winning and other days I am loosing. But all I can do is keep trying until I finely get there. So do you always make the right Choice?

The Miracle of CHOICE

Choose today to have a better day than yesterday....
Choose to make today one of the best days you have ever had....

Choose to see the sky and hear the birds and listen to your breath....
Choose to find the small things that can make turn misery to joy....

Choose to focus on your blessings....and not on your lack....
Choose to focus on others and not on yourself.

Choose to spend a few minutes working towards something that you want very much...
Choose to congratulate yourself for taking that step....

Choose to swallow bad feelings and look for good ones....
Choose to give 100% to whatever you are doing from moment to moment....

Choose to learn something useful from every person you come into contact with...
Choose to find something good in every person you come into contact with....

Choose to turn your fears into energy and momentum....
Choose to take your life back into your own hands....

Choose to remember that only YOU can choose for yourself...
Choose to exercise the power of your choice.....

Choose today to have a better day than yesterday....
Choose to make today one of the best days you have ever had....

Weather Change!!

It makes me so so happy that the weather has finally changed. I love the cooler weather, the rain and the over cast sky above. This may sound strange to some but I rather have fall, and winter weather then any other time of the year. Days are becoming shorter, the nights a little cooler and the changing color of the leaves on the trees. What a perfect time of year. In no time at all we will be celebrating Christmas again. Happy Fall to all!!

Brown Bag Crop

DB had a brown bag crop on September 9th 2006. We had a guest from the E.O. come in and take photo's then later each of us where interviewed for an upcoming article in the paper about our hobby. The photographer was a good sport with all of us girls and taking pictures of him after he took most of his pictures that he took. Kay and Sandi got him to autograph a piece of paper for them because they what to scrap a page about him. Here is a few photo's of E.J. Harris. You will not find Miss. Cindy in any of the the photo's that we took or the one's that where taken for the E.O. She hid from the camera's. Then when E.J. was asking for all of our names she got mad because he did not ask for her name, his comment was well your not in any of the photo's since you hid from the camera. It was so funny.

09-11-2001 5 Years Later

I can't believe that it has been 5 years since the attach on your country, it still feels like yesturday. I still think about what has happened and how our nation has changed due this attach in 2001. I still remember where and when I heard the news. Turned on the TV to watch Good Morning America and there the planes flying in to the Twin Towers and the pentagon, then the Towers falling with all the people still in the buildings and all the lives that where lost and for what reason, because America is a strong and independent country. But is it the fault of the everyday working American that there are problems. No it all comes down to the government that we have.
